Richard and Rozelle are both Dallas natives graduated from Hillcrest High School, but they first met at an in-service gathering in Plano as new Speech & Theatre teachers. Richard holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of North Texas and a Doctorate from Texas A & M-Commerce. He has been a classroom teacher and debate coach for over 40 years from elementary school through the university level and is currently teaching Communication courses at the University of Phoenix at Dallas. He has been honored with Lifetime Memberships in the Texas P.T.A. and the National P.T.A. Rozelle earned her Bachelors at Washington University (St. Louis) and has an MFA in Theatre from S.M.U. She taught Theatre and directed plays in high school in Plano before becoming a full time “Mom” and serving as Room Mother, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Cookie Mom and other fun jobs. While the children were in pre-school, she taught Creative Dramatics at Solomon Schechter Academy. Twenty years later she started public school teaching again in the Richardson schools and is currently on leave from teaching Theatre at Collin County Community College to assist Richard with his Rotary duties. To stay involved in Theatre, Richard and Rozelle served as Leon Rabin Award adjudicators for the Dallas Theatre League for the 2006-07 season. Richard joined Rotary in 1986 and has 100% perfect attendance. He served as President of Richardson Central in 2002-03 and 2006-07 and has been honored three times as Rotarian of the Year. At the District level he has chaired the Four Way Test Speech Contest for 12 years, received the District Vac Stanford Foundation Award in 1996, served as Deputy Director of the Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund from 1996-99, served as Annual Giving Chair in 1998-99, and Assistant Governor in 1995-96, 1996-97, and 2003-04 and served as Governor’s Aide to Gilbert Brown in 2004-05 when he was honored as District Rotarian of the Year. He was a member of District 5810 Class # 3 of the Rotary International Leadership Institute (RILI) in 2006. At the International level Rozelle and Richard have participated in the Youth Exchange Program, attended five Rotary International Conventions, hosted GSE teams in their home, and are Benefactors and Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation. In 2004 Richard was the GSE Team Leader to District 2300 in Norway and helped coordinate the Norwegian Team visit to Texas in 2005. He and Rozelle took the Team on a mini-tour through Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Richard and Rozelle are members of Temple Emanu-El - Dallas where Richard is Past President of the Brotherhood (Men’s Club) and Rozelle teaches Third Grade Sunday School, tutors children in Hebrew, and is a member of the Sisterhood. Richard served on the Temple’s Board of Trustees from 1991-95 and on the Executive Board from 1997-99. Rozelle also serves on the Foundation Board of Methodist Hospital of Dallas. Richard is a Charter Member of the Berkner Exchange Club, a Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Worshipful Master of Knox-Corinthian Masonic Lodge in Dallas, currently serving as Senior Deacon of Eagle Masonic Lodge in Richardson, an Endowed member of four Masonic Lodges, Past President of both the Richardson Scottish Rite Club and the Richardson Shrine Club, and was a member of Aloha Shrine Temple in Honolulu for over 25 years. He is the Financial Advisor to the Richardson DeMolay Chapter, holds the Degree of Chevalier, Legion of Honor and Cross of Honor, and was honored as Texas DeMolay Advisor of the Year in 1995. Richard and Rozelle were married in 1976 and have three adult children who are all UT Longhorn graduates. Duncan is a writer & film editor in Los Angeles. Chelsea works in audience development and marketing at the Meadows School of the Arts at S.M.U. in Dallas. Camden works at Google in corporate recruitment in Mountain View, California. All three are Paul Harris Fellows and participated in the District 5810 Four Way Test Speech Contest. Chelsea and Camden were RYLArians and Chelsea served as a RYLA Counselor.
