Rotary District 5810 has just finished its version of The District Conference for 2020/2021, and if I may say so myself, it was a smashing success. I want to thank everyone who joined us for this amazing gathering.
The event was held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Allen, Texas. This venue was perfect for this size of an event, and the hotel staff really outdid themselves to take care of us.
The two day conference was held In Allen and we had 120 plus in attendance. Highlights of the conference were the All Club Luncheon with our RI Director, Susie Howe and a special video from our Interactors. Saturday brought more highlights and excellent speakers. The Roaring 20's Gala on Saturday evening was dedicated by DG John Moser to PDG Beverly Groghan who began the event last year but due to Covid was unable to proceed. See the photos.
Congratulations to the 11 Clubs that completed the PUBLIC IMAGE OLYMPIC GAME: Plano West Rotary, Addison Midday, McKinney, Allen Sunrise, Dallas, Rockwall, Coppell, Richardson East, Wylie East Fork, Park Cities and Grand Prarie Metro! Big round of applause to the Rotary Club of Plano West who completed the Olympic Games first!!! GREAT JOB everyone!
The Marriott Courtyard at Allen Event Center was a center of service when it hosted the Rotary International District 5810 North Texas 2021 conference this past weekend. The City of Allen Mayor and charter member of the Rotary Club of Allen Sunrise, Ken Fulk, welcomed District 5810 Governor John Moser at a Friday luncheon to kick off this two-day event.
"Our loved ones never really leave us," Rotarian and President of 1LT. Welch Run charity shared as she inspired community members to lace up and run in remembrance for the 10th annual Run for our Heroes event Saturday, April 17th.
Plano West Rotary and other awesome volunteers assisted the administrators, teachers and staff of Armstrong Middle School to organize & distribute food from the North Texas Food Bank through a COVID-19 safe drive-thru to students and their families affected by food insecurity. We contributed 9 volunteers (4 PWRC members) to this effort in combination with their volunteer team, and provided a lot of nutritious food (valued at $1000) for 1.5 hours on a Tuesday afternoon.
Amy Bosway and Lori Crider represented the soon to charter cause based Rotary Club of Suicide Prevention and Brain Health e-Club in a service project with Dallas Off-road Bicycle Association (DORBA) to prepare the trails for the upcoming mountain bike race at Big Cedar Wilderness in Dallas.
Coppell High School Interact Club organized a food drive with other Interact Clubs across North Texas for the Salvation Army. Under the leadership of Coppell's Interact President, Yashasvi Karri, enough food was collected to feed 88 families for a week. In addition to food, the packages contained hygiene materials and socks.
The Addison Midday Rotary Club made 50 Easter Baskets for Hope Supply who distributed them throughout the community. This is our favorite service project of the year. We have lost count on the number of years we have made Easter Baskets.
The Melissa Rotary donated the supplies and packaged up 50 Veteran Comfort Kits. These kits will be delivered to the District Conference to be combined with other clubs efforts.
On Tuesday night, April 20, the City of Carrollton presented Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary with the 2021 Outstanding Community Organization Award (shared with Inspiring Lives Inc).
The Mesquite Rotary Club hosted its annual "Four Way Test" Speech Contest at the Mesquite ISD David Belt Professional Development Center on April 20th. Covid safety protocols were in place, with only the necessary contestants, teachers, school officials, club leaders, and contest committee members actually present.
The Rotary Club of Grand Prairie Metro took part in The Big Event on April 24th, 2021. Patterned after similar events on university campuses, the Big Event is one day for city-wide volunteerism. Celebrating unity in the community, we pair volunteers who want to help others with residents who have a qualifying project. Our club paired with the Children First Counseling Center where we helped them move into their new offices and clean up the landscape.
Preston Hollow Rotary Club joined with two other District 5810 clubs, White Rock and Melissa, and with the Autism Treatment Center in Dallas, to produce and distribute an award-winning short film, “Hide Your Love Away.”
