Hi all - it's been an interesting month. Besides dealing with the crazy weather, I've had a lot of fun attending events and making some club visits. The Mckinney Sunrise Club invited me to attend a Naming Dedication Ceremony at Collin College McKinney Campus. The College named the Student Center after the club! The Club proudly committed $100,000 to an endowment with the Collin College Foundation.
Rotary President-elect Olayinka Babalola revealed the 2026-27 presidential message: Create Lasting Impact. “As members of Rotary, we share a vision of a better future,” he said. “To make this vision a reality, we must acknowledge and unleash the change within ourselves. Please save the date for the District 5810 4-Way Test Speech Contest, scheduled for Friday, April 11. This signature Rotary program gives students the opportunity to sharpen their public speaking skills while reflecting on the values of the Four-Way Test.
The Rotary EClub is proud to support the Binational Tuberculosis (TB) Program in partnership with the Texas Department of Health and families along the Rio Valley in Mexico. Thanks to the generous donations from Rotarians and friends, our club was able to contribute $1,750, providing food for 31 families—89 individuals—for an entire month, along with much-needed housing supplies.
Wanda Smith from Community Waste Disposal was our guest speaker. She opened her presentation by engaging the audience with a series of fun and thought-provoking Rotary trivia questions, immediately setting an interactive and welcoming tone. The activity sparked participation and highlighted Rotary’s long standing mission of service, providing a natural transition into her main message.
Preston Trail Rotary members recently volunteered with Feed the City, helping support families in need through hands-on service. Rotarians worked side by side to sort, pack, and distribute food, ensuring local families received essential resources. This project reflects Rotary’s commitment to meeting immediate community needs while showing up with compassion, teamwork, and heart. Through service opportunities like Feed the City, our club continues to turn care into action and make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.
Join the Rotary Club of Dallas for a special luncheon celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, featuring the captivating Thomas Jefferson interpreter, Steve Edenbo, who brings one of America’s greatest minds to life. Thomas Jefferson was an American titan who led by persuasion, intellect, and conversation rather than coercion.
Mesquite Rotary Club president Lindsay Paris presented a $5,000 donation check to the Mesquite ISD Education Foundation at their meeting on January 13th. Foundation executive director Randy Lewallyn accepted the check.
McKinney High School Interactors concluded their fifth annual sock drive in December with a record breaking 1404 pairs of socks! Each year, these socks are donated to Streetside Showers, a North Texas nonprofit that provides mobile hot showers and personal hygiene care to those in need.
The Irving-Las Colinas Rotary Club presented speaker Ross Rolirad with a $1,000 check towards the District 5810 goal of raising over $100K for their END POLIO NOW Campaign. Less than one week later, Ross was presented with another $1,000 check for PolioPlus by the Prestonwood Rotary Club.
The Carrollton Farmers Branch Rotary Club had the opportunity to participate in the Carrollton MLK parade this year. It was wonderful to stand with so many community leaders in recognizing all of the great work MLK did in creating a more just world.
Preston Trail Rotary Club proudly supported the Santa’s Helpers event, bringing together Rotarians and the Celina community to serve local children in need. Through the incredible generosity of our city, more than 60 bikes and thousands of toys were collected to brighten the holidays for North Texas families. The event was a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared heart for service.
Chili Day started in 1981 as a way to raise money for The Salvation Army. This past Chili Day, $4,370.00 was donated to help support their Adult Rehabilitation Center.
Celina High School’s Interact Club proudly participated in CHS Expo Night, welcoming incoming freshmen and families as they explored the many programs available at the high school. Interact students shared firsthand experiences about the club’s service projects, leadership opportunities, and commitment to community involvement.
In the month of December Rotary Club of Park Cities members searched their closets and donated unwanted, but gently worn, shoes. Some members also started shoe collection at work or in their neighborhoods.
