Allen Rotary Club members answered the call recently and provided 5,000 meals for local children. The Allen Community Outreach agency provides lunch for approximately 500 needy students each day over the summer. The ACO food supplies were gradually running low and a call was put out to help fund meals for 500 students for the last 10 days of summer before school began.
Allen Rotary Club Service Chair Randy Sandifer contacted members to each donate a case of soup or Spaghetti O’s within the week. A clever idea from member Neil Fonville that helped promote the drive was to encourage ordering the food through Amazon Prime. Members could order cases of canned goods and have them delivered to the ACO with little effort but big results. Several members indicated how easy it was to order the donation online and have it delivered to the agency the next day. One local businessman donated 2,500 cans to the drive.
