The Greenville Rotary Club’s 24th annual Cotton Patch Challenge was a big success this year. The bike ride held on the third Saturday in September had a large participation and fantastic weather.
Rotarians were on site at 5:30 setting up and finalizing preparation for the ride. People began to check in starting at 6:30 and the ride began at 8 am.
The riders could choose from 6 to 74-mile routes leading them around the southeastern end of Hunt County. Due to the current need for social distancing the ride took on a little different feel at registration and the starting line. This year’s registration was all done online prior to the event and participants were able to use the provided QR code to ensure a touchless registration process when they showed up to the ride to check in. The staging of riders also was quite different this year. The riders were staged in accordance too the distance they were riding in grouping from the longest ride to the shortest ride. The riders had locations marked along the street to give them the necessary distance between riders so we could stay withing the city and county guidelines set for us by the Mayor of Greenville. This year’s committee thought of a great way to get families out riding together and added a 6-mile route geared towards the younger riders and families.
The Cotton Patch Challenge has evolved over the years to become a fundraising event for The Rotary Club of Greenville. The goal is to help Greenville and Hunt County charities with financial support. The Greenville Rotary Club supports over 20 local charity with the money raised.
