Wow!  The year 2020 continues to Open Opportunities for Rotary. We’ve still to visit two clubs, however we are really impressed with the clubs who have hosted Rotary Clubs have distinguished themselves with their dedication to service, even during this period of pandemic.
In my club meetings, I’ve stressed four (4) points RIP Holger Knaack wants all clubs to hear.  The first point is membership.  Holger’s view is that one of the best ways to break this “membership stalemate” (1.2 million Rotarians) is to involve new and existing member in the formation of new clubs.

Today, I would like to continue my challenge to every club in our District to consider forming a Satellite club.  There may be potential Rotarians in your area who cannot meet at the same time as your club.  Providing a Satellite of your club may give those folks a chance to join and enjoy Rotary just as you do.  Remember, members of YOUR satellite are members of YOUR club.

October was World Polio Month and October 24th was World Polio Day.  Several of our clubs went out of their way to host a special event to spread the word about Polio and raise funds to eliminate that dreaded disease.  Among the activities was my wife, Trudy, who baked apple pies to be raffled to raise funds to End Polio Now.  Several clubs joined in as we had fun to raise funds.

Covid-19 still has our clubs meeting virtually, or in a hybrid status.  Hopefully, the near future will bring us all back together.  Never-the-less, the November Round Table (November 14) and the District 5810 Foundation Seminar (November 21) will be virtual, via Zoom.  The Roaring 20’s party, originally scheduled for last March, then moved to November 14th must be rescheduled again.  Stay tune for more news.

To continue the District Governor succession line, John Curtis (Rockwall Rotary Club) was selected in October to fill the position of District Governor Nominee-Designate.  John, who is currently our District Grant Chairman, will be the District Governor in the 2023-2024 Rotary year.  Please join me in congratulating John, and wishing him well in his journey to become the Governor.

Here’s hoping the start of this year’s holiday season keeps all of you healthy and safe.
