Hi all - well, it is that time in a DG's year of service where we write the "last one".  YES - it is already June and WOW, has it been a wonderful year with all of you!  Please read this newsletter all the way to the end.  I'll have some special comments there.
May has been an eventful month!  We held our last CLE with a superb speaker, Stu Schlackman.  I attended two Club President Happy Hours.  I attended a Fort Worth Rotary Club meeting (275+ members) and also a Madison, Wisconsin Rotary Club meeting - they have 420 members!  Madison is my home town and while I was there I just HAD to go to a meeting!

ALSO - District 5810 celebrated Memorial Day in some great ways.  The Waxahachie, Midlothian and Greater Red Oak Clubs hosted their first Carry The Load walk in Ellis County.  Despite the sketchy weather, they had a good turnout for the 1 and 3 mile walks.  It was an impressive event.

The Richardson, Richardson East and Blue Star Mothers partnered to place flags at the Memorial Park in Richardson.  It was so nice driving by and seeing the flags there waving in the breeze.

I was asked to speak at the Plano Club's Student Citizens of the Year Celebration on May 20 and really had fun watching all of the kids receive their awards.  Traci Steelman did a great job as the emcee of the event.

Ginger Mayo and I visited Campo RYLA last weekend where I got to speak to the class!  They had just arrived at camp and they were still getting used to the idea!!!  We were very impressed with the camp itself - it is beautiful - and the RYLA leadership.  We are so lucky to have Dana Mackison and his team running the show.  It's the 36th year!

BUT, there's more!  During the month, we held a vote for the PDG who would represent us on the RI Director Nominating Committee.  Howard Templin was elected by the active District 5810 PDGs to serve as our Member on the committee and John Curtis was elected as the Alternate.  Congratulations to both of them and thanks for being willing to serve!  They will help choose the 2028-2030 RI Director for our Zone.

Our new Rotary year is coming up FAST!  So - for the month of June, there are a few things to do:
  • Your club should hold a joint board meeting with old and new officers & approve your 26-27 budget too
  • Your club should nominate some members for District Awards - those are due June 30
  • Your upcoming Club President should enter their goals for the 26-27 year
  • Your club should have its Installation Event for new 26-27 officers
I was HONORED to serve as your Governor this year.  The friendship and leadership I witnessed on my visits and at club and district events was touching.  We tried some new things, we had some successes & challenges, we learned a bunch and we worked HARD.  All to say that I had the BEST time this year!  I was fortunate to have a great group of volunteers helping and supporting me.  AND all of you, my Rotary Family, there when I needed you as we were going down the Yellow Brick Road.  Special thanks goes to my aide team - Mary's Maniacs - who have been working with me for the last 3 years.  Thanks to Ginger Mayo, John Moran and Tamara Thomas.  They are amazing!

Thank you all.  See you at the Emerald City Awards Gala!!

YIR,
Mary
