Saturday, June 15th, at 9:00 AM, “trumpets will sound, bands will march” and McKinney Rotarians will celebrate the fruition of the largest fund-raising project in District 5810’s history!  Okay…no trumpets or bands but the two McKinney Rotary clubs, Sunrise Rotary Club and McKinney Rotary Club joined into a public/private partnership with the City of McKinney in the spring of 2015 for the first All-Abilities Playground in McKinney to be a part of Bonnie Wenk Park Phase II and just a few short years later, four to be exact, the Grand Opening will give children and young adults with special needs a place to be outdoors and play!
The Rotary “Service Above Self” focus has brought this playground from inception to completion through EIGHT club Presidents (one per club for four years), FOUR District Governors, TWO mayors in the City of McKinney, TWO McKinney Parks Directors and various members of the McKinney City Council and changing Commissioners on several McKinney Boards. The co-chairs for the entire 4 years were Juli Smith and Larry Offerdahl. A large crowd is expected for the grand opening and we would like to include as many Rotarians as possible.
