Shown, left to right, are WWII veteran Josephine Moncrief, Mesquite Mayor Stan Pickett, and Mesquite Rotary president Michael Hooker as the donation check to the Mesquite Veterans Memorial project was presented.

Mesquite Rotary Club officials donated to the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial project as they participated in city ceremonies honoring one of the few living World War II Army nurses at the Town East Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Thursday, April 26th.  The American Flag Ceremony honored Lieutenant Josephine Moncrief, 97, who is one of only 15 living Army nurses who served in that conflict.  Mesquite Rotary president Michael Hooker presented a $1,000 check to mayor Stan Pickett in support of the Historic Mesquite funding effort to build a new Mesquite Veterans Memorial at City Lake Park.
More funding is still being sought for the project.  To make a donation, send it to Mesquite Veterans Memorial, c/o Historic Mesquite, Inc., P.O. Box 850137, Mesquite, TX 75185-0137.

The funds underwriting the cost of this donation come from the proceeds of the Mesquite Rotary Club’s annual “Rodeo Road Rally” fundraising bike ride.  The next ride is coming up at Mesquite’s Rodeo Convention Center on Saturday morning, June 30th.  For registration or more information on the event, visit www.rodeoroadrally.com.
