Now that venturing out is encouraged, RCPC’s last meeting of May will be a socially-distanced tailgate in the parking lot of the Biblical Arts Center.
Members will bring lawn chairs and a picnic and will sit behind their cars. A microphone and speakers have been obtained so that President Richard Stanford and P-E Barb Jeffries can bring the members up to date on what has been happening in the first half of 2020 and plans for the future. Then there will be an “open mike” for members to share their “adventures,” their insights, or, in short, the good, the bad and the funny from their lives during shutdown. This is only the latest activity to keep members connected.

VP Happy Franklin has been hosting “virtual” Happy Hours on GoToMeeting so that members can bring each other up to date on things that work or don’t, their activities during shutdown, or jokes to lighten the mood.

Of course, rather than cancel meetings, RCPC has been livestreaming programs from member Mark Neace’s studio.  With only Mark, President Richard Stanford, the speaker, and sometimes VP Happy Franklin present, social distancing could be maintained. Speakers could provide their own videos if they chose not to come in person. Providing a complete meeting online at the usual time every Friday has maintained a sense of Rotary normalcy.
