Plano Rotary Club wraps up 2024 by implementing the Samaritan Inn Angel Tree event. Special thanks to all the donors who donated time and energy towards this project. John Ratley, Rooster Construction, donated $1000 and a truck to help transport this years goodies.
Shoppers met to shop for 67 children. That number waffled a bit with transitions at the inn but we ended up providing more than 200 gifts, stocking stuffed with puzzles and snacks, a stuffed animal and at least one book for each child.

Christmas Eve morning was the moment of truth. Children at the inn are often worried that Santa will not find them. However, they are reassured that Santa shops there first and then goes to the other kiddos.

We kicked off the morning serving hot chocolate and donuts to each child and their parent/s. Santa and Mrs. Clause, aka Ean and Jan Sullivan, arrived shortly afterwards and visited one-on-one with each child.

When all is ready the families are invited to a big space where gifts for each family have been sorted in spaces that resemble a living room. Needless to say, the ripping of paper and squeals of joy become loud.

Often children will run up to Santa for hugs and thank you. This year, a group of us watched a 15 year old from Puerto Rico who lowered his head and began to cry when he opened his gifts. He really wanted a Houston Texans' NFL jersey. A former Rotarian asked to adopt two of the kids and they made his wish come true. His mom said she had been praying for weeks to figure out how she could buy Christmas for her children. Her prayers were heard.

Our club spent approx. $1800 in donations and demonstrated service above self in a big way. Thanks to all who participated.
