For the fifth year on Veteran’s Day (taking a break in 2020 for COVID), Rockwall Rotarian Dr. Stan Lowrance has given of his time and talents, along with those of his entire dental staff, and 30 additional volunteers—all to benefit veterans’ dental health.
It’s called D-Day for V-Day, and Dr. Stan and his crew helped 90 veterans with whatever dental services they needed. In partnership with the Terry Fisher American Legion Post 117 in Rockwall, a crew of Rockwall Rotarians, area dental professionals, and other concerned citizens helped orchestrate this year’s event, which included gift bags and royal treatment for all patients. Dr. Stan and his team of compassionate professionals provided dental services totaling around $37,000. Back in 2017, Dr. Stan brainstormed a way he could help make a difference in the lives of local veterans.

The successful dentist had encountered a patient who desperately needed his help—a nurse who had beaten the odds and overcome cancer, but suffered the effects of radiation and chemotherapy with chronic, excruciating tooth pain. When he learned that she was a veteran and there were many like her who did not have access to proper dental health, his idea was born, and the project has grown every year since.
