Two Rockwall Rotarians saw a need and jumped into action to fill it. In the weeks before Thanksgiving, Nancy Parkes and Robin Chouteau noticed that the local food bank, Rockwall Helping Hands, was calling for assistance in restocking their empty shelves.
During the pandemic and its aftermath, the nonprofit had shifted into overdrive to help the growing numbers of area families in need. That meant the food storage usually so plentiful had been depleted.

So Nancy and Robin immediately reached out to fellow Rotarians to help, and spread the word throughout the community for others to follow as well. They knew that was a simple way their club could provide assistance. Rotarians love to have a mission and this one’s easy: bring some extra food—a little or a lot—to help those in need.

The Rockwall Rotarians, happy to have a cause, answered the call. Within a few weeks, they had gathered enough food to fill an SUV to donate. Keep in mind, this challenge was met even with limited numbers still attending in person meetings due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

The Club’s success should come as little surprise, after all it’s what Rotarians do, not only helping when it’s their own project, but also partnering with other nonprofits to help them become successful as well.
