Although students are out of school—need doesn’t take a break for summer vacation, and neither do Rockwall Rotarians.
Members of the Rockwall Rotary Club are more committed than ever to answering the call to fight hunger for those in need at any age. As they have all year, the dedicated crews are still showing up monthly to help get healthy food ready to be distributed throughout the summer, and on one recent Saturday, they even had the opportunity to help deliver the boxes of food to a local food pantry as well.
With need and costs rising in the past few years, food banks have been depleted, and are facing challenges to keep up with demand. Summer is an especially vulnerable time for students who are on the free and reduced lunch program at schools, because they no longer receive meals for breakfast and lunch during the day, while seniors and other at-risk populations need assistance all throughout the year. That’s why Rotarians in Rockwall, in conjunction with other local nonprofits, make it a top priority to prepare food to be distributed to those in need.
