After two years of not being able to hold a golf tournament due to Covid, Royse city rotary foundation, inc. is bringing back its annual golf tournament and renaming it the mike gilbert rotary classic after one of their own. mike gilbert is a strong believer, happily married to his wife Jackie of 55 years and counting, father of 4, grandfather of 5, and an avid golf player who worked for many years as a registered architect in the city of Dallas and the city of Plano.
In 1983 he and a partner began their general contracting firm from which he eventually purchased his partner’s interest and formed the gilbert construction group which he ran until he retired in 2015. mike is a founding member of the Royse city rotary club where he served as its second president and spent countless hours serving his community. He also served on several boards including the Royse city community development corporation board, the heritage board, and the main street board where, along with other board members, he was able to lend his expertise in architecture and construction to assist in shaping the growth of the community.
Mike was also part of a group that organized Texas leadership bank in 2006, the second bank to open in Royse city, and served on its board until it was bought out by guaranty bank in 2016. In 2009, Royse City Rotary foundation, inc. was formed to accept tax-deductible donations. As a board member of the foundation, mike formed a golf committee on which he served as the chair and hosted their first golf tournament fundraiser, serving as the main fundraiser for the foundation to this day. Royse City Rotary foundation, inc uses the funds raised at this and other fundraisers to help support local charities and provide scholarships to local students. The Royse city rotary club, foundation, community, and charities are grateful for the vision, support, love, and countless hours of service mike has dedicated.
