Rotary Club of Dallas' Annual charity golf tournament and dinner raise funds to help protect Dallas residents, continue ongoing partnership with Dallas Police Department.
For the 6th year in a row, Safer Dallas Better Dallas (SDBD), the non-profit organization with a mission to protect citizens from becoming victims of crime and to engage them in a partnership with our Dallas Police Department (DPD), is signature beneficiary of the Rotary Club of Dallas’ Charity Golf Tournament held on May 10 at Brookhaven Country Club. The event’s title sponsors were Steve and Mercedes Penner. Additional key sponsors include Motorola Solutions, Ben and Tamme Whaley, Courtney Underwood, and more.

“Safer Dallas focuses on supporting the efforts of our Dallas police officers to build unity while also successfully implementing safety initiatives that reduce crime. The goal of Safer Dallas is to protect our citizens and make Dallas America’s safest big city,” said Courtney Underwood, Safer Dallas Board of Trustee.

This year, the Tournament Dinner hosted DPD Police Chief Eddie Garcia as Keynote Speaker and presented the SDBD 2020 DPD Distinguished Service Award and the SDBD 2020 Public Safety Leader Award.

“Since the inception of Safer Dallas, Rotary has partnered to support the organization with funds and volunteers. Together these organizations work towards building a safer, stronger, and more cohesive community. We could think of no better beneficiary of this tournament than Safer Dallas.” Jim Frankiewicz, President, Rotary Club of Dallas

During his remarks, Dallas Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia discussed his 2021 Violent Crime Reduction Plan as well as the department’s focus on engaging public and private partnerships to weed out the criminal element while seeding resources, hope, and healing into neighborhoods.

“This is an opportunity to recognize and support the Dallas Police and at the same time raise funds to support safety initiatives through Safer Dallas that benefit the community as a whole. We could not be more pleased to support this event once again as title sponsors,” expressed Steve Penner.

“We often forget the importance of honoring those who are working tirelessly every day to transform the lives of Dallas residents across all spectrums of public safety and education. While one of the most generous cities in America, Dallas is also a city that is bisected by extraordinary differences in socioeconomic status and resources. For well over a decade Safer Dallas has been presenting these awards to some of Dallas’ most extraordinary leaders in the community and at the Dallas Police Department who are doing good work that transforms lives,” says the Honorable Gary Griffith, former Councilman and Safer Dallas Better Dallas Chairman.

Matthew Randazzo began his tenure as President and CEO of The Dallas Foundation May 2018 and leads a team of 25 full time professionals who work to bring together people, ideas, and investments in Greater Dallas so individuals and families can reach their full potential. These grants included gifts in support of public health, homelessness, early childhood education, domestic violence shelters and social service organizations working to reduce barriers for under-resourced communities.  The Foundation also hosts the fund that built and maintains the Dallas Police Memorial.
