Day 5 of the District Service Cruise was in the port of Cozumel, Mexico where Rotarians carried ashore 40+ backpacks containing assorted school supplies and musical instruments weighing approximately 160 pounds. All year long, District 5810 has been collecting and delivering school supplies, children's shoes, and children's books to Cozumel with the help of Carnival Breeze Cruise line.  A total of 260 boxes of supplies and books and 125 pairs of shoes were delivered.
The Work Service Tour in Cozumel included building shelves in the library and planting of numerous fruit trees. School children there will be educated regarding the care of the trees and will use the produce in the vocational culinary program onsite.
 
Other projects:
  • Delivery of 164 feminine hygiene kits which were handed out to young ladies by District 5810 cruise attendees.
     
  • Preston Trails, Greenville, Dallas, Carrollton-Farmers Branch and Cozumel Rotary Clubs are applying for a $38,000 Global Grant to purchase computers and training for education and to aid with future career opportunities and to purchase musical instruments and provide training for disadvantaged students.
  • Boxes of medical supplies including 2,400 lancets were delivered to Cozumel from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club on the Carnival Breeze. Cozumel Rotarians then delivered these medical boxes and several boxes of school supplies to the Tulum Rotary Club on the mainland for their diabetes clinic and support of local schools.
     
  • Prestonwood Rotary is contributing $3,000 to partner with District 5110 on a $58,710 rain water project at Escuela Secundaria Tecnica #6 Middle School  and Centro de Estudios Tecnologicos del Mar (CETMAR) High School to provide drinking water for 1,760 students and 148 teachers and water for existing gardens, fruit trees and worm composting system.
