Since 2001, RCD partnered with Scottish Rite Hospital to develop a bike safety course for children. This year many children from age 3 to mid-teens arrive on the grounds of the hospital to ride bikes around a course where they experience safe ways to enter the roadway, cross an intersection, to pay attention to the area around them, etc.
Each child is fitted with a free helmet, is entertained by a helicopter arriving and being opened for inspection, and they and their families eat hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by a team of Rotarians, Interact, Scouts and hospital staff.
